Shortcuts:

  1. Ortho
  2. Zoom

To escape from any AutoCAD command, hit "Esc" until "Command:" appears in the command window at bottom of screen.

All buttons listed are on right side of screen by default unless otherwise stated.

  1. Ortho On/Off
    To create straight lines on X-axis or Y-axis only
    Hit F8 Button to turn Ortho on
    Hit F8 Button again to turn Ortho off
     
  2. Zoom
    Type "Z" then "Enter"
    Will be given list of options [All/Center/Dynamic/Extents/Previous/Scale/Window]
        Most commonly used:
              Extents (zooms to show all drawings)
              Window (zooms to defined window by drawing a box around desired area and hitting "Enter").
     
  3. Copy Object
    Type "CO" then hit "Enter"
    Hit either "Shift" and Right-click OR click mouse scroll wheel to select point
    Repeat "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select drop alignment point
     
  4. Draw Line
    Type "L" then hit "Enter"
    Hit F8 if line on X-axis or Y-axis is desired, else hit F8 if Ortho is already selected and X-axis or Y-axis line is not desired
    Hit either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select drop end point
    Optional: Repeat "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select second end point
     
  5. Extend Line(s)
    Type "EXTEND" or use "Extend" Button
    Select line(s) to be extended by left clicking anywhere on that line(s)
    Select endpoint to be modified (blue box at endpoint will turn red)
    Hit either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select new end point
     
  6. Trim Line(s)
    Type "Trim" or use "Trim" Button
    Select line(s) to be trimmed by left clicking anywhere on that line(s)
    Select line to be used as trimming cut-off point
    Left click on the end of the line to be trimmed
     
  7. Move Object
    Type "M" then "Enter"
    Hit either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select move point
    Repeat "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select drop point
     
  8. Mirror Object(s)
    Type "MIRROR" or use "Mirror" button
    Select object to be "mirrored" by left clicking anywhere on that object or set of objects
    Hit either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select mirror point
     
  9. Array Object(s) (create multiples of an object)
    Type "ARRAY" or use "Array" button
    Window will open:

    Select Number of Rows
    Select Number of Columns
    Select Row offset, of no consequence if only one column
         Row offset is defined by desired spacing between objects and object width (be aware of drawing scaling)
    Select Column offset, of no consequence if only one row
         Column offset is defined by desired spacing between objects and object width (be aware of drawing scaling)
    Select object(s) to be arrayed by clicking "Select Objects" in upper right corner of window
         Array window will close
         Left clicking anywhere on object(s) will select objects to be arrayed
         Hit "Enter" when finished selecting object(s) to be arrayed
         Array window will re-open
    Hit "OK" to array objects
     
  10. Leader (line with arrow)
    Type "Leader" and hit "Enter"
    Hit F8 if line on X-axis or Y-axis is desired, else hit F8 if Ortho is already selected and X-axis or Y-axis line is not desired
    Select leader start point by left clicking in desired location, else hit either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select point of origin
    Left click to select intersection points
    Hit "Enter" to end leader line
    If annotation is desired, enter that information at this point by hitting "Enter" twice
    Text window will open, hit "OK" when text is entered or if not desired, hit "OK" without entering text
     
  11. Shading an object (Hatch)
    Select object to be filled-in by left clicking anywhere on that object
    Type "HATCH" then hit "Enter" three times
    To edit fill, right click on fill and select "Properties"
    Under "Pattern" header, fill pattern can be defined
     
  12. Donut (filled circle with or without opening in middle)
    Type "DONUT" then hit "Enter"
    Select inner circle diameter by typing dimension (be aware of drawing scale), else enter "0" (zero) to create filled circle without inner circle
    Select outer circle diameter by typing in dimension (be aware of drawing scale)
    Select drop point by left clicking at desired point or hitting either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select drop point
     
  13. Scale Object(s)
    Type "Scale" or hit "Scale" button
    Select object(s) to be scaled and hit "Enter"
    Type in Scale (be aware of drawing scale) and hit "Enter"
     
  14. Rotate Object(s)
    Type "Rotate" or hit "Rotate" button
    Select object(s) to be rotated and hit "Enter"
    Specifiy point of rotation by hitting either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select
    To rotate, either rotate object manually with mouse OR type in degrees of rotation and hitting "Enter"
     
  15. Blocking
    Type "Block" or hit "Make Block" button (usually on left side of screen)
    "Block Definition" window will open
    First option will be to name the block
    Then select objects to be included in the block by hitting the "Select Objects" button (on right of window)
    Select objects to be blocked by dragging cursor across all objects or selecting objects individually, then hit "Enter"
    Select basepoint by hitting either "Shift" and Right-click OR mouse scroll wheel to select and hit "Enter"
         ELSE default point will be 0.00 on all three axis
    Hit "OK" button at bottom of "Block Definition" window
